For this painting, I went off on my bike at 5 am, trying to catch some sunrise at Dwingelderveld, where I haven’t painted before. It was a bit of a bike ride and a search for a good spot. When I set up the easel for painting, there was this beautiful glow on the water, but this lasted for only a short while, and I was staring directly toward the sun. Which added to the challenge.
While painting on location, a few other early birds with binoculars and telescopes stopped to have a chat. Apparently, a red-footed falcon had been spotted, so they wanted to check it out. I hope they were lucky!
