Part of painting is knowing when to stop. With these two ducks I was just starting to paint the eyes, but then realized that it didn’t belong in the feeling and atmosphere I was intuitively working towards. The colors I was using gave me a strong sense of lucidity. Leaving the dimensions of time and place and even choice of action for these ducks fully open. Now I feel the ducks might be able to do anything, and not per se what you expect them to, or even like them to do. Drawing in the eyes took that feeling away, so I covered them up. Cheeky decisions like that put a grin on my face.
