This is a semi-abstract painting of an interior, painted from observation. The space that is painted is a small vintage shop that is located in the same factory as where my studio is. Instead of trying to paint everything in great detail, I took a similar approach to what I would do when I am outdoors, painting plein air. Some objects, like chairs, lamps, and mannequin are recognizable and placed in the light. For this area of the painting, I used brighter colors, such as lemon yellow and pink, whereas the shadows and the objects that are further away were painted more abstract and in cooler colors.
This painting will be part of a series where I will paint inside and around the Sluisfabriek, the old machine factory in which my studio is situated. In some sort of way, they will resemble landscapes, however, containing human-made objects. You can find an overview of these paintings here.
