In March, just before spring really takes off, there isn’t so much bright green around yet. It is different for these fallen trees, though, with mosses growing on and around their roots. Especially on sunny days like when I started this painting, the vibrant greens become a true spectacle. It’s really one of my favorite subjects to paint.
As you can see in the video, I started this painting outdoors, mostly focusing on the overall structure and the interaction of light. Back in the studio I worked on the overall atmosphere, including the surrounding trees. Plus I introduced colors like violet and pink to enhance the vibrancy of the moss green.
