For this painting I went to the forest on a very calm day in March. There were no leaves yet, so nature was still colored in quiet earth tones, as the plants and trees still needed to wake up after winter. Also on this day the sky was very cloudy, so there was no strong light or shadow. Such a day is perfect to stand still at a close distance and observe the subtle colors and structures that you can find in their bark. As you can see in the video, I returned a week later when the light was very similar.
