Misty Pine Trees – Oil painting on canvas – 30×30 cm

It was a very still, misty morning, yet the presence of these pine trees was very pronounced. I didn’t aim to paint everything I saw before me; it was these tree trunks that demanded my attention. Strong, living beings with slow-moving, straight postures. From the location, I liked that it lacked clear contrast: differences in light and dark were almost absent. I honored this by blending muted shades of orange, green and blue-grey in fluid brushstrokes. The tree trunks were accentuated by varying the saturation of orange. The painted scene became abstract, but in a way it distilled exactly what I wanted to convey.
