At the onset of spring, I encountered an elm tree on a bright sunny day. The bright green-yellow of the newly formed leaves was in such a strong contrast with the blue sky that I thought the colors would be really great to paint. I was on my bike, though, and didn’t bring any painting gear. The next day, however, I was out to paint and came across a small group of elm trees, and again, I loved the contrast they had with the clear blue sky. So I set up the easel and started painting, focusing on the interaction of the yellowish leaves with the sky popping through.
