A buzzard sitting on a wooden pole, painted with visible brush strokes. For this oil painting, I used unusual colors to create a portrait of the bird that is abstract, yet it feels like realism in a certain way.
The buzzard is painted in warm red brown, which is contrasted with cool green, blue, and lemon yellow. The background is cool compared to the bird, yet the subtle transition of yellow versus blue and deep red creates an atmosphere of light.
Buzzards like to sit on these wooden poles, it seems. Along roads or in meadows, like this one. This particular one also noticed me, so it was not sure whether it was going to take off, or stay still.
