This is an oil painting of a beech tree as the main subject. It was painted plein air on one of the first sunny days of the year. In this painting I focused on the interplay between light and shadows on the trees and forest floor.

I had prepared an under-layer for the canvas that created a subtle red glow, which made the greenish tree trunk come forward. As for the forest floor, I depicted the sunlight with hues that are leaning towards orange, while the shades are painted in muted purple, making the warmth of the sunlight appear brighter.

Overall, l wanted to approach the dreamy atmosphere of the first sunlight hitting the forest, where all the trees are just waking up.
