I slept well last night, and for the third day in a row, I am sitting here on a blanket next to a large oak tree. It is a beautiful, calm summer morning, and as I write this, I can hear various birds: a robin, a chiffchaff, a great spotted woodpecker, a willow warbler, and a grey flycatcher.

I am continuing with the lichen painting today. I slept quite poorly yesterday, but I have made progress that I can build on today.
I have been working on this for a while now, and I have found a steady rhythm. At the moment, I am subtly applying some shadow lines embedded in the moss using various shades of blue, but also by applying some transparent black. I almost never use it in this way, but it does help to emphasize subtle differences in the shadows.
While I am painting, I also hear an animal, or several animals, walking in the woods around me, and I even heard a small cry that I cannot identify. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to see what it is so far.
As I paint, I always move from details to the atmosphere in the composition. That is actually always the case. Always wandering a little.
