Olterterp – 28 July 2026

I woke up very early, so I went to the forest just before sunset. As I woke up this morning, I was thinking about the painting I am currently working on. One of the things that appeals to me so much about moss and the forest floor in general is the different textures. And I was thinking that for this painting, I might want to experiment a bit with tools other than just brushes in the later stages. I am thinking about working with my fingers, but I also brought sponges, syringes, pipettes, palette knives, and cloths. And of course, the forest is full of twigs, leaves, and other materials.

The sun has just risen, and it is still a bit dark to start painting, but I will start building up in a moment. And maybe a few sips of coffee…

In the meantime, I have been working on the painting for a while, and today I have mainly worked on the atmosphere. I notice that with some subjects I am still searching a bit at first, and that is still somewhat the case now. Sometimes it takes a while before it clicks…

A painting halfway through the process, show on easel in an open space in the forest.
