I am sitting now at the spot where I am going to paint today. It is the third time I have been here this morning. Once to look for the subject I want to paint, once to get all the supplies, and another time to pick up the blanket I am sitting on now but had also forgotten to bring. So, first I’ll have a coffee…
Today I am starting a large painting of a sawn-off tree trunk, or, better said, of the various textures of green with which the tree trunk is overgrown. Actually, the tree trunk itself is barely recognizable because it is completely overgrown by a cool green lichen while it is surrounded by warmer-toned moss, interspersed with the dark warm tones of the peaty soil. The structures that make up all this really appeal to me.

In the meantime, I have made a start, and I am eating an apple now. I notice that lately I am drawn more to subjects that are less influenced by the light. Subjects that seem to move more slowly and are more abstract, which I do not immediately see how to approach. This is also such a subject. The moss has such subtle color nuances and is very abstract.
Later in the morning it started to rain a bit, so I’ll continue tomorrow…
