18:53 – I am now in the woods near the cottage we are currently staying. It is a forest with predominantly birch and pine trees. And there is a very old, thick birch tree lying here that has fallen over, and it is already quite far in its decomposition. It just looks really beautiful, with the moss growing on it and the structures formed by the wood. This tree is also much older than the other trees I see around me here. The trees here aren’t super close together, but because of the pine trees, and because the sun is already quite low, there is a somewhat dark atmosphere.
20:45 – Suddenly there is a commotion in the woods. I hear something coming my way that sounds like a large animal. So I try to grab the phone to film it. The first thing I thought of was a moose, but it were 2 roe deer. They ran away wildly. So then I thought, maybe something is chasing them, but nothing followed. A little later, one of the roe deer did come back, and was quite close to me. It was a buck, and now I think he just wanted to chase the other one away. And then he saw me standing there too, and ran off, but often stopped for a moment and barked very loudly. Even when I couldn’t see him anymore, I could still hear him barking. It sounded like he was angry that I was standing there. An angry roe deer! How cool to see. I managed to film a small clip. If you turn on the sound, you’ll hear him bark once too!
21:00 – As I paint, it gets darker, and by the time I’m finished, the sun is almost down. So I can’t be entirely sure about the colors. I’ll have to judge that a bit better later when I see it in daylight.
